CNN required two custom players, both having the same design and functionality with differing branding and bottom sections. One was being designed for CNN while the other for CNN Money. Closely working with Yahoo! Professionals Services and using their video CMS APIs, we provided full development and a successful delivery for these players.
The players’ functionality included custom advertising integration, metrics reporting, sharing options, and others. Metrics are stored by two separate systems: Omniture and Nielsen Video Census.
CNN’s Dart Enterprise (DE) is the source of pre-roll advertising and targeting rules for both players. The companion banner and video ads are automatically synched. When the video is finished playing, the companion banner ad continue being shown in this section. To re-iterate, the video metadata is only shown during the duration of the pre-roll advertisement.
We also provided maintenance and optimization for the ad communicator component that connects the video players with the ad servers.
The CNN’s players were running on top of the Yahoo! Video Console that provides ways for content management and dynamic player customization.
